SUV or off-road? The Ssangyong Rexton W 2.2 Diesel 4WD-on two-wheel-drive version is also available-fits in the Middle: above average in off-road capability than most Sport Utility vehicles and offers a good standard of comfort.
The first edition of Ssangyong Rexton was a great success, then keen competition put a bit in the shade. But the big Korean 4 x 4 arrows to his bow again.
Ssangyong Rexton Redesign
The Ssangyong range, largest born under the pencil by Giorgetto Giugiaro in 2001 on the basis of the first Mercedes ML, has had considerable success at launch. In 2013 the Rexton has been revamped, especially in the front.
Massive and muscular, halfway between a SUV and a large 4WD 4.8 meters long and has a huge cabin approved for 7 people. The third row seats offers two seats cramped with difficult access, as all cars to 7 seats, but still allows you to do accommodate two adults. And vertically there is also in the back row.
For the other 5 space is notable, while the trunk is capped at 278 litres unless you shoot down the seats: If you are travelling in two there are available more than 2,000 litres. Interior styling is a bit dated. The big four-spoke steering wheel is very 1990s, and screen media system (without navigation) is a few generations ago.
The range of Ssangyong Rexton also includes a rear-wheel-drive version that befits a big SUV with ladder frame capable of overcoming difficult terrain. The only engine available is a 4 cylinder 2.2 178 HP and 400 Nm with manual or automatic with torque converter.
The feeling is to be driving a big SUV of the past, as the first ML hence. And it’s not a bad feeling, mind you. First of all, the comfort is good, both the acoustic one both in terms of the uptake of disconnections.
Behind the wheel of the 2018 Ssangyong Rexton W you sit high above the ground and hear all the grandeur of the car: in Bend, in changes of trajectory, braking. You have good perception to be driving a large vehicle with ladder frame, and no doubt off the asphalt at SUV in the dust is more oriented to driving on asphalt that fill our streets.
Contrary to an off-road vehicle, hard and pure, the Ssangyong Rexton has better road and pamper the driver with soft commands. The Steering, for example, is as light as down steering. For the maneuvers you sbraccia, but without straining your arms.
The 2.2 turbodiesel is powerful already at low speeds (400 Nm of maximum torque coming in at 1,400 rpm) and automatic transmission with converter, fluid and anything but quick, goes well with the character of Korean SUV. Just don’t use it in manual mode with the awkward lever the knob because it tends to do his own thing anyway.
New Ssangyong Rexton Prices
Not much for the offering and 7 seats as standard, though you have to give up a bit of technology including the now ubiquitous active safety systems and a multimedia system in step with the times.
It starts from 27,400 euros for the 2WD version, but my advice is to focus on 4WD automatic price list with prices starting from EUR 33,700. Complete the standard equipment.
A Mitsubishi Pajero Wagon, penalized in the Italian market to be available only with a high capacity turbo diesel engine (a 3.2 inline-4), could be an alternative for those who want a spacious 7-seater with good off-road capability. The Pajero is a true off-road specialist, but compared to the 2018 Ssangyong Rexton has a price higher.
For those seeking a robust and large SUV. Comfortable with good off-road qualities and good value for money. Could not find a 4 x 4 equally spacious with a list price so low.
-For what it offers in terms of mechanics, space and equipment has an attractive price
-Good offroad capabilities are combined with an honest road manners and good ride comfort
-No equipment found on competitors
-The devaluation could be a problem, better keep it long
