2017 Kia Sportage US Review AWD 4WD
2017 Kia Sportage is a car that has made great strides for generation after generation. All, or almost all, better-taking advantage of technological progress, State of the art security equipment, of increasingly sophisticated infotainment. But, in the case of the new 2017 Kia Sportage, lining up the four models that have taken place since the first compact crossover, Spartan and even with some off-road vacation, until the current car, well laid out and with luxury amenities, it really makes an impression. As the price, of course: the 30,000 EURO of 1.7 CRDI 2WD Class under test and, even more, the 40,100 of 2.0 CRDI 4WD GT Line speak for themselves.
Seventy horses of difference. The ‘ real ‘ 2017 Kia Sportage, which presumably you will see more on our roads, will be equipped with front-wheel-drive-only and with the 1.7 CRDI from 115 horsepower. A turbodiesel now somewhat dated, not quite live up to the best competitors, but still valid and more than suitable to your car. The other, the 2.0 CRDI 185 HP AWD in GT Line, we need more than anything else as the lines, for a comparison between the best Korean production has to offer and what is reasonable to expect trying to save some. Among other things, the 1.7 is a bit special, since this is a Class (setting up top for 2WD), with 19-inch wheels (standard on the 2.0 CRDI) and featuring the Style package, which includes bi-xenon headlamps, smart key and sunroof can be opened. I mean, to see them from out front, due to the differing only in the grid and Led fog lights, “ice cubes”, of GT Line. Both appear muscular, thanks to “ruotoni” and lines, which essentially follow the silhouette of the previous model. Inside the bridge has not been disrupted, but the new steering wheel, the softer materials, the combination with metallic frames and, in General, all commands return a feeling of well done that normally is associated with German cars. As well, on the other hand, a certain lack of imagination, which is an austerity that may like or dislike.
2017 Kia Sportage All Wheel Drive
A nice smooth ride. We must say that it can happen to skate in departure, especially on wet asphalt, but the 2WD with the 1.7 CRDI turns pleasing and easy to master from the first meters. The turbodiesel is no different to the cavalry that brings and never appears exuberant, but has a more than adequate torque available from low revs. Which means that lends itself to a guide, also encouraged by a clutch pretty lightly and well. In essence, prefers smooth gaits and tourism, taking advantage of the high gears, all the way up to sixth, assuming you don’t pretend shooting lightning when you slowed down too much or in case of overtaking. Not bad, however, promptly to towns and traffic speeds slowed down, there is no need to change gear too frequently. For the 2.0 CRDI from 185 HP, of course, the situation is different. The engine is less rough, as well as much more full-bodied, at all engine speeds. In addition, paired with a that it will not be the utmost modernity, but remains a solid guarantee, as the six-speed automatic with torque converter, create a combination by auto upgrade (from Sorento, in fact). It is a little bit slow at the start, but when it meshes with no spring anymore, has no voids and, indeed, pushes with a pretty impressive progression. The acceleration is proof: aside from the significant shot 0-100, there’s output speed from very respectable 1 km time trial (just below the 170 km/h).
2017 Kia Sportage Fuel Consumption (MPG)
Consumption. On the front, 12 km/liter consumption of 2.0 4WD automatic are an average little more than acceptable. But impress even more alone the 1.7 13.3 2WD, especially when compared to other similar crossover: the Qashqai 1.5 dCi 110 HP, for example, marks an average of 18.6 km/liter. His secret? Simple: it weighs 190 kg less (on the same test conditions). Another effect of the mass (almost two tons), combined with the considerable height of the car body (165 cm against 159 of Nissan), is a rather obvious body roll, which is not conducive to continuous and rapid support in fast corners. This, however, does not penalize the new 2017 Kia Sportage on the track: the 1.7 gets along well, even better than the usual Japanese (who had scored 1 ‘ 34 ‘ 45) and only a few tenths behind surprising Suzuki S-Cross. While the trim soft, comfort-oriented, guarantees smooth travel.
