Produced 140,000 units in three years, the 2018 BMW series 2 Coupe and convertible boasts a battery of improvements. This is warned motorists: builders grant themselves now breathing or break. New follow one another at a frantic pace. At BMW, between changes of generation of existing vehicles, additional models, and treatments of mid-career makeover, it’s a steady stream of new arrivals who flooded the market. Since the beginning of the year, the Bavarian manufacturer has thus revised its series 4, launched the new generation of the 5 series, announced the arrival of a CS M4 and enlargement of its rechargeable hybrid range. Behind the scenes, it also prepares the launch of the next X 3 and the revelation of a new high-end model. In the middle of the Fireworks, BMW has yet found a space to introduce the series 1 and series 2 rewritten. These two models that share the same platform and many mechanical organs receive a detailed review.
2018 BMW Series 2 Redesign, Interior
Series 2 Coupe and convertible to grant from the King with a face before widely revised. The grille is distinguished by more flared nostrils and more accented chrome edges. It is framed by a new bi – LED spotlights that can access the Adaptive function in option. Front bumper air intakes are also adopting a new drawing. Aft, the monobloc optical widely encroaching on the wings also take advantage of the LED technology.
It’s in the cockpit that the regulars of the model will see the most important changes. The designers have completely revamped the dashboard, elegance, and modernity. The decoration of the Board is now in the continuity of the block of the Central ventilation louvers. Of new upholstery, tips add a touch of refinement. For the first time in series 2, in addition to the wheel, iDrive, the circulation in the system can be done directly by pressing the touch screen, which will facilitate the life of the one who has to use it. New features also make their appearance, as the recharge of the smartphone by induction, the real-time traffic info, but also driving assistance systems. The active cruise control with stop function & go is now available on series 2.
2018 BMW Series 2 Engine Specs
Between the blocks 3, 4 and 6-cylinder in-line, petrol or diesel, the range of powertrains covers a wide range of power from 100 to 340 HP. Nine including five fuel to gasoline versions are available. Through work on mapping, new strategies of injection and the use of turbos reworked on diesel consumption and CO2 emissions have yet been optimized. The 3-cylinder of the 218i sees its CO2 emissions range between 118 and 130 g/km, according to the pneumatic monte. The 228i gives way to a 230i, always animated by the 4-cylinder 2 litre turbo but which delivers now 7 ch more (252 HP), while seeing its CO2 emissions drop to 131 g/km. At the top of the range, the M235i is replaced by the 240i. Signed M Performance, the 6-cylinder turbo online still 3 litres debits 340 HP (+ 4 ch). Its consumption varies between 163 and 179 g/km, according to the pneumatic equipment. Meanwhile, the cabriolet series 2 displays the same engine offer, with the exception of the 220 d which is not available with all-wheel drive.
Finally, the M2 also benefits from the updates but its 6-cylinder 3 liter turbo online retains 370 horsepower. Yet, it is not excluded that its strength is to overcome the barrier of 400 horses by the end of the year.
