After the Grand Kodiaq, the Czech Automotive Car Brand launches a compact SUV in line with its reputation: convenient and well-equipped. Its petrol engines should represent more than half of the sales to individuals, Thats Called 2018 Skoda Karoq.
and two! After the Grand Kodiaq, Skoda launches a compact SUV of 4, 38 m called Karoq. This curious surname was not invented by a computer. It is the result of the contraction of the words “Car” (“Kaarr”) and “Arrow” (“Rahil”) in the language of the living Alutiiq Indians on the southern coast of Alaska. A people undoubtedly great Kodiaq bear hunters: Skoda shows some enthusiasm for the American Septentrion. But it is not his elder Kodiaq that the KAROQ will attack. He will rather compete with his new cousin Seat Ateca (like Skoda, the Spanish brand belongs to the Volkswagen group), or with the well installed Nissan Qashqai, vehicles of identical dimensions. The beautiful habitability of the KAROQ and its chest of 588 l in configuration 5 places (1810 L in 2 places) will also allow it to go tease longer SUV of a few centimeters, such as the Peugeot 3008, Renault Kadjar, Hyundai Tucson, Kia Sportage and also Volkswagen Tiguan.
Clever arrangement of the trunk and rear seats
Beautiful habitability, but also beautiful modularity. The Varioflex option (€450 on the first two finishing levels, which counts three) allows a very astute arrangement of the trunk and rear seats. The latter, in number three, with reclining files, can be folded or removed separately. Better, the side seats slide 15 cm forward and aft, and once the central seat is removed, they also slide (8 cm) towards the centre. The equipment is generous. From the entry-level (25 790 €), the KAROQ has a system of “infotainment”, including a good GPS, a bi-zone air conditioning, or alloy rims, a “hands-free” key, a leather-girded steering wheel. In short, Skoda remains true to its reputation as a brand offering good value for money.
2018 Skoda Karoq Design
The aesthetic of the 2018 Skoda Karoq will not enchant or annoy anyone. Ditto for the cockpit, of traditional design, well laid out and solidly built. The materials are sober but are a notch below those of Volkswagen. Alas, the graduations of the instruments are not visible through certain solar glasses. The “Virtual Cockpit” (fully digital display), available in 2018, should eliminate this defect. At the wheel, the KAROQ shows a nice balance. Its handling is healthy, in a straight line and in a bend, where the bodywork does not take excessive roll despite a high height (1.60 m).

The damping filters well small and large irregularities of the road, at least with the dynamic chassis that fitted our test vehicle. We tested the KAROQ with two engines: Diesel 1, 6 litre TDI and petrol 1-litre TSI, developing each 116 horsepower, sufficient power in the light of the French traffic conditions. The heavy oil group is nice and quiet enough, but our preference goes to the small gasoline tricylinder. Soft to low RPM, brisk in the towers, it is also less heavy and weighs less on the front of the vehicle, thus providing a better response of the suspension. It will be all the more appreciated if the price difference with diesel is 3 000 €, which will only be compensated if you are a big roller. Skoda forecasts the remainder to sell slightly more KAROQ with a petrol engine (52% vs. 48% diesel).
