2018 Vauxhall Grandland X Review; Peugoet 3008 Clone

Not easy to stand out from the very successful 3008 when using the same technical base. The SUV of the German builder, however, manages to cultivate a certain difference.
The interest of Vauxhall for the models of PSA Peugeot-Citroën does not date from the recent acquisition of the old German brand by the French group. The SUV Crossland x and now Grandland x take in effect for technical bases those of the Citroën C3 Aircross and Peugeot 3008. Exchange of good processes, the vehicle of the rafters is manufactured in the Spanish factory that Vauxhall owns in Zaragoza, where is produced the Crossland x, and the Grandland x is built in Sochaux on the chains of the 3008. The first question that arose to the designers of the newcomer is simple: How to stand out from the bulky French to the unanimously recognized qualities?
A very classic dashboard
Besides a different aesthetic, the easiest is to play the price card. And this is the case: the prices of the German SUV are 3 to 7% lower than those of French. They range from 25 600 € to 35 300 €. But that is not enough to cultivate a real difference. The most obvious were to remelt the cockpit. The futuristic “I-Cockpit” of the 3008 is certainly innovative, but its famous little steering wheel and the reading of the instruments over the latter do not appeal to all drivers, just like the control of many functions, such as air conditioning, from a screen Touch.
Back to a less spectacular dashboard, of an absolute classicism, with the Vauxhall Grandland X. Beautiful dimension steering wheel, direct controls, traditional instrumentation, we evolve in a known universe. It’s properly finished and assembled, clear, clean, and a little sad: it’s Vauxhall. As a result of the adoption of a larger steering wheel, the steering was recalibrated. “We took the opportunity to make it more enjoyable in the parking manoeuvres and to improve the stability at high speed: we drive faster in Germany,” says Hakan Elvesund, the “Performance” manager of Grandland X.
Optional, back-pain-resistant seats
According to local traditions, the suspension of the German SUV was-slightly-hardened compared to that of its tricolor counterpart. “We simply picked in the” toolbox “for adjusting the chassis,” says Hakan Elvesund. The excellent platform of the 3008 did not suffer from these small manipulations. On the contrary, in front of the 3008, the behavior of Grandland X appeared a little more lively, and its bodywork seems to be better supported in curve, without appreciable degradation of the comfort, in which the excellent seats Certified AGR (association which militates for the Back health), billed as option €600.

The other technical changes are minimal. The New Grandland X has almost the same dimensions as the Peugeot. His chest loses a little volume in standard configuration (514 liters vs. 520) But gains more than a hundred rear benches folded (1 652 litres against 1 482). Under the hood, there are also two pleasant original Peugeot mechanics: a three-cylinder petrol Cuba 1.3 L of 130 hp and a 4-cylinder diesel 1.6 L of 120 hp. They can both be coupled to a 6-speed automatic transmission. The 180 hp diesel available on the 3008 should arrive in 2018. As for many SUV, however, no integral transmission is to the program.
The lines of the 2018 Vauxhall Grandland X are pleasant and the color palette offered for the bodywork is very shimmering. But, apart from a slightly different chassis and a more content price, will it suffice to take the pawn to the French rival of which he himself comes from? The answer is probably not. But the Grandland X will interest the refractors in the cockpit of the 3008. It could also benefit from shorter delivery times than the 3008. In both cases, the House PSA, now owner of Vauxhall, will win on both tables. But the real winner remains in fine the 3008, decidedly well born.
