More basic, more bourgeois and more powerful, the 2019 Alpine A110 will be declined in several versions that will allow it to broaden its register.
The Berlinetta A110 of the 21st century, already adulated, began its career under the best auspices. The 1955 buyers of the “first Edition”, who had declared themselves in only five days, are certainly enchanted and reassured. Remains to be confirmed this success in the long run.
Before we know if, as the rumor says, the Alpine acronym will one day be affixed to an SUV, it remains to attract all those who asked to see, if not to try, before signing. It’s on the right track. A thousand installments (€2,000) would have already been paid, via the application that allows ordering online those that will succeed in the first Edition.
Those in the plural, because the A110 will soon be declined in two versions: Pure and legend. A PDF document put online by the site Worldscoop details the proposal. First, in either case, the technological content remains the same, with a few details.
Compared to the first Edition, it is noted that the Pure version, which will be entry-level, loses about twenty kilos: 1,080 kg against 1,103 kg. It is lightened by several types of equipment that switch to the rank of options, such as active Sport exhaust, front and rear parking radars, a backup camera, aluminum crankset, heated seats and the Focal audio system.
More importantly, the diameter of the wheels decreases from 18 to 17 inches and that of the brake discs from 320 to 296 mm. It is imagined that the Pure A110 that keeps the French flags on the rear window studs, the multimedia system with 7-inch touchscreen, the belt seats (leather and micro-fiber), the LED optics and the driving mode selector (Normal, Sport, Race), will be the favorite of purists.
The latter will undoubtedly regret that in the case of a model clearly claiming its kinship with the original A110, its designers did not foresee a manual box.
Not for pure efficiency, it is understood that that of a good double clutch box is impossible to match. But for the not so old-fashioned pleasure of gesture accompanied by the famous heel-tip.
Even though Renault Sport has announced that the next Megane RS, equipped with the same 4-cylinder 1.8-liter turbo as the 2019 Alpine A110, will be available with a manual box in addition to the double clutch box, Alpine will never be able to offer it. A heap.
The engineers argue that a manual box with the linkage needed to control it would have weighed down the car. In fact, if the manual box has been discarded, it is primarily for economic reasons, those responsible for this option are difficult to make profitable.
From then on, the designers of the 2019 Alpine A110 took the advantage of drawing the chassis around the very compact double clutch box that they had in radius. This 7-Getrag box will be a hindrance to the increased performance of the A110.
If a more powerful version, we are talking about 310 Horsepower, will integrate well the future range, this engine evolution borrowed from the upcoming Megane RS Trophy will see its torque reduced from 400 nm to 320 nm, limit fixed by the transmission. On the other hand, the most powerful of the 2019 Alpine A110 will also be the lightest thanks to the use of composite materials.
Still, among the customers of the A110, there are undoubtedly for whom the comfort and refinement provided by the Focal audio system and the leather upholstery are more important than a few kilos won. Alpine has concocted a legend version that takes up almost the complete endowment of the first Edition. Only the active exhaust and the heated seats will remain options.
In addition to the three shades proposed on the limited launch series (Alpine Blue, Glacier white, and deep Black), the A110 color chart will be enriched with three new colors: Abyss Blue, iridescent white and thunder grey. The price is still unknown. According to our estimates, that of the Pure should start around €50,000, while that of the legend will approach the €55,000.
We must finally be patient because, on the one hand, the 2019 Alpine A110 is the victim of its success and, on the other hand, the complexity of the assembly of the aluminum case (glued, riveted) produces a slower setting than expected.
