Audi renews the A7 Become 2019 Audi A7 Sportback. Fairly modernized, the long sedan with a coupe looks now has a light hybridization.
Launched in 2010 in the footsteps of a Mercedes CLS which inaugurated the daring concept of a four-door coupe, the Audi A7 Sportback is finally renewed. The revelation of this second generation comes one month before that of its great rival, which will be presented next month at the Los Angeles show.
Built on the same platform as the latest Audi A8, the A7 Sportback will benefit from the bulk of its technological innovations. The two cars are close, but unlike the luxurious limousine, the odds of the four-door coupe have hardly changed. It retains a length slightly less than 5 meters (4.97 m). Only the wheelbase increases by 2 cm, for the benefit of the habitability in the rear seats.
If the proportions are preserved, the style becomes more athletic. In the first place, we notice an aggressive grille, wider and lower than the A8. Paradoxically, despite the presence of a tailgate dedicated to practicality, the tense lines of the A7 Sportback suggest more dynamism.
This second generation will be launched in version 55, understand with a V6 turbo petrol 3 liters TFSI of 340 hp and 500 Nm. With such a cavalry, the A7 Sportback can boast of high flight performance. In particular, a 0 to 100 km/h shipped in just 5.3 seconds.
The performance is all the more flattering that, at the same time, Audi announces a combined NEDC consumption between 6.8 and 7.2 l/100 km, or C02 emissions ranging from 154 to 163 g/km. Such sobriety is certainly not the result of chance.
Like the A8, the new 2019 Audi A7 Sportback enjoys a light hybridization. During the acceleration phases, its V6 TFSI is assisted by an electric motor which operates at 48 volts and also acts as an alternate starter. Between 55 and 160 km/h, the car can then be set in freewheel mode, motor cut.
A front-facing camera allows you to anticipate the reboot so that it can be done flexibly. Another benefit is that the stop and start system is now operational from 22 km/h. In the end, in real life, Audi announces that this light hybridization or “mild hybrid” generates a gain of 0.7 l/100 km.
Given the sporty character of the 2019 Audi A7 Sportback, the Turbo V6 has been coupled to the 7-speed S-tronic robotic box, rather than the Tiptronic automatic 8-speed A8. The Quattro Ultra temporary integral transmission, which only drives the rear wheels when necessary, is common to both models, but its electronic management is specific.
With its horizontal treatment, its refined materials, its digital instrumentation “virtual cockpit” and its central screen of 10.1 inches, the dashboard is largely inspired by that of the A8. Its luxury of equipment and connectivity is not less.
The “Garage pilot” and the “parking Pilot” which will be available sometime next year will allow you to manage the parking in a narrow remote location, from a smartphone. Audi, on the other hand, does not mention “AI traffic jam Pilot”, an automatic driver below 60 km/h inaugurated by the A8.
2019 Audi A7 Sportback Price
It is inferred that the A7 Sportback remains above all a car to drive, which confirms the wheels of 21 inches, the various choices of possible suspensions, including one with pneumatic springs, and the option four wheels steers.
The A7 Sportback 55 TFSI Quattro S-Tronic will be available next February at a tariff that is not yet fixed but which in Germany starts at €67,800. Other 4-and 6-cylinder versions, petrol, and diesel, will be proposed in the following months.
