After renewing the X3, BMW tackles the 2019 BMW X4, its sporting declination with an assertive style and sharp engines. The least we can write is that BMW does not spare its efforts. We have just come down from the BMW X2 that the Munich firm is already announcing the new, in this case, a totally Redesigned X4 which will be presented, in the world premiere, to the public of the 88th Geneva International Motor Show in early March.
The X4 is at X3, what the X2 is at X1 and the X6 at X5, a sporting variation that stands out by a profiled body like that of a coupe embellished with more powerful engines. The BMW X4 is thus a competitor of the Mercedes GLC Coupé while competing dynamically with the very sporty Porsche Macan.
New BMW X4 Redesign Exterior & Interior
Compared to the first generation launched in 2014, this second mill has grown somewhat. BMW reports an increased length of 8 centimeters to reach 4.75 meters. The style evolves smoothly to evoke the one of the X2, especially the design of the optics.
2019 BMW X4 Interior Changes
Inside, of the nine still compared to its predecessor, less if one refers to the latest generation of X3. The X4 takes its entire dashboard, including the 10.25-inch central touchscreen.
The sportsmanship of the X4 is also expressed through a wide range of engines, three in petrol and four in diesel. All are coupled with the ZF 8-speed automatic gearbox and the xDrive integral transmission. In essence, the customer has the choice between two 4-cylinders of 184 hp (xDrive20i) and 252 hp (xDrive30i). The 2019 BMW X4 M40i, with the 6-cylinder engine of 360 HP, will follow next August.
The diesel offer will be based on two 4-cylinders of 190 hp (XDRIVE20D) and 231 hp (XDRIVE25D) and a 6-cylinder 326 hp (M40D). It is here that the gap widens with the X3 which has to settle for 265 hp in xDrive30d, depriving it of the finish M diesel.
The X4, equipped with the sport’s low-down suspension and the sports variable steering, is distinguished by a lower center of gravity that benefits from the maneuverability. The M Performance versions also benefit from the active differential and the M Sport reinforced braking, as well as large 20-inch wheels.
2019 BMW X4 Fuel Economy
More globally, BMW announces a reduced mass of 50 kilograms compared to its predecessor and a Cx reduced to 0.30. This helps to contain the consumptions which, for the whole range, are between 5.4 and 9 L/100km, or CO2 emissions of 142 to 209 g/km.
2019 BMW X4 Pricelist
BMW In France has just published the price of this new BMW X4, with the exception of the high-performance m versions. The entry-level xDrive20i in Lounge finish is displayed at €50,700, and prices climb up to €66,650 for the xDrive25d in M Sports finish. The mid-range xDrive20d in XLine finish is sold €60,750.
