Exactly 485 km. And even 615 km in town. These are the rays of action claimed by Kia for its e-Niro, electric declination of its hybrid crossover and rechargeable hybrid. And beware, these autonomies have been measured according to the new WLTP standard, less favorable (or more realistic) than the old NEDC. The key to these beautiful performances obviously lies in the capacity of the battery.

The brand did not go by mortmain. This electric version has lithium-ion polymer batteries of 64 kWh. For starters, the entry-level Tesla Model S proposed not so long ago a 60 kWh battery. But the American car is definitely bigger than the Korean one. The e-Niro measures 4.36 m and belongs to the C segment, that of the “compact” (this is even the first crossover in this category to fully electrify), while the Tesla belongs to the F segment (4, 97 m), that of the “big road”.

Kia has managed to fit a large battery in a fairly contained template. The manufacturer claims that it recharges at 80% in exactly 54 minutes on a terminal of 100 kW. It remains to find these terminals, but this is another story. It is associated with an electric motor of 150 kW (204 hp) providing a torque of 395 Nm. It reaches the 100 km / h in just 7.8 s. For those who would be tempted only by urban and suburban cabotage, the manufacturer also offers batteries of less capacity (39, 2 kWh). This battery only provides a range of 312 km, always measured according to the mixed WLTP cycle. The power then stands at 136 hp for a couple still quite impressive 395 Nm. The 0 to 100 km is shot in 9, 8 s with this engine.

Kia has equipped its e-Niro with several technologies to improve the autonomy of its vehicle. In addition to regenerative braking, Coasting Guide Control (CGC) and Predictive Energy Control (PEC) are intended to maximize the range of the car. . These last two systems are connected to GPS. They anticipate turns and changes in topography, suggesting that the driver lift his foot whenever possible to recover energy.

Like all Kia, the e-Niro has a contractual guarantee of 7 years or 150 000 km. It should be marketed this year. It will be sold € 42,500, or € 36,500 minus the ecological bonus of € 6,000 in 64 kWh / 485 km version. The first deliveries are scheduled for December 2018. Finally, let us note that the Korean brand presented the ProCeed, an elegant break version of its Ceed sedan designed as a hunting estate.
