The 2019 Mazda 6 Wagon is a familiar sporty style, but not for this little room. In the version, 2.2 diesel 175 HP with automatic gearbox and integral drive is brilliant and versatile but is only available in the top set of the range exceed at the price of 41,000 euros. With an almost complete endowment of everything.

Slender and muscular: the 2019 Mazda 6 wagon has a sporty soul, there is no doubt. The style, which in Mazda call “Design Kodo”, sports the wheel with ribs very pleasing to the view. The inclined window also contributes to the silhouette of this Japanese station wagon, which in the red color really looks very well. It has personality, but at the same time has a line that does not tire over time.
The seats covered in cream-colored perforated leather make the environment elegant and luminous. There is also a small sunroof-we are increasingly accustomed to the huge “panoramic roofs”-contributing to the cause, while the plank has some insert with the same leather of the seats with visible stitching. The quality of the cockpit satisfies, and with that steering wheel rather small and the bridge facing the driver reminds me in some way a BMW 3 series.
You are comfortable on the 2019 Mazda 6 wagon, on the front seats and even on the ones behind. The trunk has capacity of 522 liters, slightly higher than that of the three German Audi A4 Avant, BMW 3 Series Touring and Mercedes C class SW, but lower than that (huge) of a Volkswagen Passat. The untouched notes are hard to find, except for the multimedia system screen, a bit small in its segment. On the other hand, the exceeding arrangement (the only one available on the 4WD version) includes the excellent Bose surround sound system with 11 speakers.

Do not be frightened by the 2.2 litres of the Mazda 2.2 D diesel bi-turbo engine, its peculiarity is to have a particularly low compression ratio. The result is better efficiency, comparable to a lower Cuban engine. The declared consumption of the Mazda 6 WAGON 2.2 Skyactiv D 175 CV 4WD is just 5.4 l/100. In real use, as is often the case, we are a little far from the official data, at least in the kilometraveledelled in this road test, where I detected an average of 7 L/100 km. That for a 175 HP diesel wagon with automatic gearbox and full traction is a more than acceptable consumption.
The 2.2 diesel of the Mazda 6 WAGON 2.2 Skyactiv D 175 CV 4WD is vigorous at all speeds. Merit of double turbocharger: a small turbine with little inertia enters into action since the lower regimens eliminating the delay in response, and a larger one to higher regimens. Just take a look at the technical sheet to find out that I have at your disposal well 420 nm of maximum torque at 2,000 laps, and you all feel every time I press on the right pedal.
The long, despite being a diesel engine, does not disappoint at all, and the sound emitted is more pleasant than you expect from a diesel car. The 6-speed automatic gearbox is a classic torque converter. A good torque converter, fluid and rather quick, but can hardly compete for efficiency and for speed with a “double clutch”. The use in manual is not dramatic, anything but the answers are rather long.
Overall I found the Mazda 6 wagon a great travel companion. On the highway it gives the best of itself: it resumes quickly, it reveals itself silent, and between the curves is always at ease thanks to a well calibrated trim and 4WD traction that ensures a high level stability. It is an on-demand integral traction, which distributes the driving torque between the two axes through through 27 multiple sensors that provide 200 readings per second: basically it enters into action before one of the wheels begins to slip. The steering did not excite me, it is accurate but I wanted it a little lighter in maneuver and more sensitive in speed.
2019 Mazda 6 Wagon Prices
The 4WD version is available exclusively in the rich set-up exceeding price of 41,000 euros. The good news is that the standard equipment is basically “full optional”. You pay aside the “skin pack”, which also includes the front seats with electric adjustment and the electric sunroof (2,150 euros), the metallic paint offered to 700 euros and the two special Colors Soul red (that of the test specimen) and machine grey at 850 euros.
At the same engine and equipment, renouncing the automatic gearbox and 4WD drive you spend 35,000 euros.
Mazda 6 Wagon Alternative
Premium or non-premium? In this version, the 2019 Mazda 6 wagon is approaching for content at the German rivals premium category. The image is also quite different from that of the other Japanese cars, except for Infiniti and Lexus which however do not have in the range of any station wagon.
The Mazda 6 WAGON 2.2 Skyactiv D 175 CV 4WD could be an alternative to the three German Audi A4 Avant 2.0 TDI quattro from 190 hp (from 44,000 to 50,000 euro according to the set-up), BMW 320 D xdrive Touring (from 43,000 to 50,000 euro) and Mercedes C class SW 220 D 4matic SW (from 47,000 to 53,000 euro with automatic serial gearbox). Attention to the optional: These Germans are charged dearly.
Or, with prices more aligned to Mazda, there are two other viable alternatives: The Volkswagen Passat 2.0 TDI 190 CV DSG 4motion and the Ford Mondeo 2.0 TDCI POWERSHITF AWD, both with the automatic double clutch gearbox. The first has a huge boot and good finishes, but leaving Ingolosire from the optional the price rises easily; The Blue Oval station has good dynamic qualities, while the interiors are less cared for. They are listed with prices starting from respectively 38,000 and 40,000 euros, but also in this case choosing the top-of-the-range set exceeds both 40,000 euros.
For those looking for a dynamic station wagon, bright, sporty in design and at the same time spacious. The automatic gearbox and 4WD traction make it a complete car, comfortable and suitable to face a ski resort in the middle of winter: The drive is great, the space is not lacking.
