2019 Peugeot 508 Review; Stylish Four Door Coupe
At the next Geneva International Motor Show, PEUGEOT will present an ambitious 2019 Peugeot 508 inspired by the German premium sedan with the allure of coupe.
It’s not just the SUV in life. This is at least what Peugeot expects to renew the 508. If the sales of Berlins have been packed, the registrations tend to show that the beautiful bodies of the German premium are still able to draw their pins from the game.
2019 Peugeot 508 Redesign and Changes
Inspired by the concept of “four-door coupe”, initiated by a certain Mercedes CLS, Peugeot took the side of drawing a family sleek. In plain view, the new 2019 Peugeot 508 Review targets more the customers of the Volkswagen Arteon than that of the Passat.
Also, little Revolution, it goes to the tailgate. Pierre-Paul Mattéi who oversaw the style of this 5-door family, under the direction of Gilles Vidal, explains: The emphasis has been on balanced proportions. Our will was that this 508 sort of the lot, that people turn back on its way. ”
Despite these great ambitions, the new model proves to be shorter than its predecessor (4.75 m instead of 4.83 m). Above all, a lowered pavilion height of 5 centimetres (1.395 m) and a remarkable aerodynamic finesse resulting in a Cx of 0.26 are held. From Peugeot’s admission, the Audi A5 Sportback served as a model.
The reference to the German premium is verified through doors without window frames, a vanity usually reserved for the cut. This is the key to the style and it is an industrial feat in terms of a generalist manufacturer.
Same observation for the curve of the stampings, as pronounced as those of a sports car. The Peugeot style is finally expressed via the luminous signature that distinguishes its daytime fires. Not content with getting his claws out of the back, the new 508 shows the fangs at the front.
The metamorphosis continues inside with the fourth declination of the famous I-cockpit inaugurated by the 208. The dashboard of the new 2019 Peugeot 508 is more accurately inspired by the Exalt prototype of 2014. The concept of the raised instrumentation handset, a customizable 12.3 inch digital slab, proved to be more difficult to implant in a low car.
There are many storage spaces up to 32 litres. The perceived quality benefits from the use of full-grain leather or Nappa, Alcantara, satin chrome and real wood. Like the 3008 and the 5008, the 508 has a row of seven piano keys allowing direct access to the main functions.
2019 Peugeot 508 Interior
The modernism of the dashboard and the seat of the chair lowered by 3 cm give the illusion of being in control of a coupe. Unfortunately, the sensation persists at the back, due to a leaky roof line that complicates access on board, not to mention a limited roof guard. This new 2019 Peugeot 508 will not be the VTC’s favorite.
2019 Peugeot 508 Engine Specs
The priority given to the style also affects the capacity of the reservoir which decreases from 72 to 60 litres and that of the trunk reduced from 515 to 487 litres. The choice of a tailgate nevertheless makes loading easier. As for customers seeking more practicality, they will always be able to turn to the SW break which is renewed and will be presented at the Paris Salon, before a marketing start 2019.
Sedan or break, the customer will have the choice between two 4-cylinder turbo petrol 1.6 THP of 180 hp and 225 hp. For large rollers and companies, the offer will also include 4-cylinders turbodiesel BlueHDi 1.5 of 130 hp and 2.0 of 160 hp and 180 hp. In any case, the gearbox will be automatic 8-speed, except for the entry-level diesel which will also be available with a 6-speed manual transmission.
To live with its time, the 508 will also be proposed, in the fall of 2019, in hybrid version refillable. The 1.6 THP petrol engine of 225 HP will then be coupled with an electric machine of 50 KW (68 hp), housed directly in its gearbox. Unlike future rechargeable brand hybrid SUV’s that will have four-wheel drive, the sedan remains a traction.
On the chassis side, the new 2019 Peugeot 508 is based on the EMP2 platform already used by the 308 and the 3008/5008 duo. On the other hand, it benefits from a welded and glued box like that of a premium, and it receives a multiarms rear train that has just been showed by the DS7 Crossback and a controlled damping. To hold the ground, the front fenders and engine cowl are aluminum, while the tailgate is plastic.
The four steering wheels are not on the program and yet, despite large wheels from 16 to 19 inches, Peugeot announces a very short turning radius, comparable to that of a propulsion. In the case of a Peugeot, it is hoped that its road behaviour will also be up to par.
With regard to driving aid, the 508 benefits from the latest developments in this field. These include a night vision system, support for keeping in the traffic lane, monitoring of blind spots, automatic emergency braking with detection of pedestrians and cyclists and a warning of the driver’s attention.
2019 Peugeot 508 Release Date and Price
After the Geneva Motor Show, Peugeot will give us an appointment in June, the date of the first tests, before a scheduled marketing in September, for the beginning of the year. As for the tariff, it is not yet fixed but let’s bet that it will not be very far from that of the Volkswagen Arteon.
