2019 Toyota Auris Release Date, Specs, Redesign
To better entice the European clientele, the style of the 2019 Toyota Auris is asserted while its hybrid motorization rises in power. The Auris’s early career started in 2006 was somewhat winded. In charge of succeeding the popular Corolla in Europe, the Japanese compact was slow to make a name for itself. His salvation came in 2010 with the introduction of a hybrid gasoline-electric version.
The 2019 Toyota Auris became an economical alternative to the Prius. Better, it has contributed, along with the Yaris, to dramatically broaden the audience of the Toyota hybrid traction chain on the old Continent. So much so that since its launch in 2013, its second-generation sells more than 85% in a hybrid.
At the time of designing its successor, Toyota has endeavored to keep this acquis. While the Auris 2 range consisted of five conventional engines and one hybrid, the Auris 3 series will offer only one conventional engine, the 116-horsepower 1.2 liter turbo petrol, and two hybrids.
There will be no diesel in the program. The decision was all the easier to take as the brand no longer manufactured its own engines, but was sourcing from its BMW partner.
Toyota chose the Geneva trade fair to present the new silhouette of the Auris. The event takes place well ahead of the commercial launch which is scheduled in March 2019. Moreover, if the 2019 Toyota Auris exhibits the very worked outlines of its bodywork, black windows prevent to take a glance at its interior.
One thing is certain, with each new generation, the Japanese style is asserted. Faced with this uninhibited Toyota, poor Lexus CT 200h could feed complexes. For the treatment of the new Auris Grille, Toyota speaks of a catamaran effect. It is, with a more inclined rear bezel and more marked rear wings, the most dramatic evolution.
Anyway, it emerges from the prototype exhibited on the stand a certain elegance based on excellent proportions. The TNGA platform architecture, which concerns both the platform and the powertrains groups of the new Toyotas, has offered more flexibility to stylists and it shows.
Specifically, the 2019 Toyota Auris 3, which now shares its foundations with the Prius and C-HR, is 40 mm longer, 30 mm wider and 20 mm lower than its predecessor. Its length increased to 4.37 m to the level of a Renault Megane. The wheelbase fixed at 2.64 m would benefit from the habitability, especially in the rear seats.
2019 Toyota Auris Engine Specs
To return to the engines, the 2019 Toyota Auris will be the first Toyota available with two hybrid groups. The 1.8-litre 122 hp, taken from the Prius and the C-HR, and an unreleased 2 liter 180 hp designed specifically for the European market.
To limit the sensation of skating at startup, this block will be coupled with a CVT box with a first mechanical ratio. This new “full hybrid” 2 liter 180 hp Group also equips the Lexus UX and, eventually, the C-HR, as well as the next generation of RAV4. These SUVs will also benefit from an integral E-furnace transmission, with an electric drive of the rear wheels.
