and three! After having renewed its grand XC90 in 2015, then its XC60 this year, Volvo expands its range with the XC40, a compact SUV. Presented in Milan, it is the first model based on the new Compact Modular Architecture (CMA) platform of the Swedish manufacturer. Co-developed with Geely, owner of Volvo, it will equip all future models of the 40 range, including the 100% electric versions. The lines of the XC40, quite tense, are typical of those of the current SUV. On the technology side, the XC40 transposes security devices, connectivity and multimedia systems from the 90 and 60 series to the compact SUV segment.
The safety and driving support systems of the 2019 XC40 range from the semi-automatic pilot to the anti-exit road protections, the reverse traffic alert with automatic braking and the panoramic camera at 360 °, which assists the driver in Maneuver in cramped parking spaces. Inside, the XC40 adopts, according to Volvo, “a new approach to storage solutions”. The cockpit of the XC40 makes available to the driver and its passenger’s numerous storage spaces in the doors and under the seats, as well as a location for telephones with induction charging, a foldable hook to suspend a bag of Shopping and a removable recycle Bin in the central console under the armrest.

The engine range at the launch of the Volvo XC40 – developed on the original CMA platform and initially available only with full-wheel drive – will consist of two turbocharged 2.0 units already adopted by other models of the Scandinavian brand: T5 petrol from 254 hp and D4 diesel from 190 hp. Later on, we will see a new three-cylinder gasoline and hybrid and electric variants.
Like the other Volvos already on the market, also the XC40 will offer a safety equipment from before the class: Pilot Assist (Adaptive cruise control with maintenance of the car inside the lane), City safety (automatic braking), Run-off-Road Protection & Mitigation (protection in case of road exit) and Cross Traffic Alert with braking assistance and camera at 360 ° to facilitate parking manoeuvres in limited spaces.
Price and Digital Concierge Services
The New XC40 will be accompanied by a 4-cylinder D4 diesel or T5 petrol Drive-E engine. Other options, including hybrids and 100% electric, will be proposed in a second step. It will be the first Volvo model to be equipped with the new 3-cylinder petrol T3 150 Ch. product in Ghent, Belgium, from April 2018, its Cost starts at 30 850 € in the manual box.
In parallel to the launch of this model, Volvo offers a new subscription service “Care by Volvo”, first only available with the XC40.
