2020 Porsche 911 Convertible (922): Specs, Price, Availability – Porsche continues to overhaul the 911 range. Just six weeks after the introduction of the 992 coupes, the Porsche carmaker unveils its cabriolet variant.
We now know that the first copies of the new 911 Convertible type 992 will be ready to hit the road early next summer. A logical variation of the coupe revealed at the last show in Los Angeles last November, the convertible incorporates the main innovations. Entirely new, the platform can be electrified. A technology that is said to be ready and that the staff of the brand may decide to market in a second time. For the time being, Porsche is focusing on the safe side of the 911 range. The Convertible is a prominent member.
Like the coupe, the 2020 Porsche 911 Convertible is first unveiled with the “S” version based on the extended body of the all-wheel-drive model. The rear widens by 44 mm, the front 45 mm. The silhouette inherits the elements of style introduced by the coupe: ribbed front hood, shields incorporating black plastic elements, larger rearward adaptive spoiler and thin light strip crossing the stern. With the exception of the shields, the hull is entirely made of aluminum.
The cabin folds to the digital display. The 10.9-inch wide center screen concentrates all vehicle functions, reducing the number of buttons and controls. The mechanism of the integrated canvas hood has progressed further. The new hydraulic mechanism makes it possible to carry out the operation even when traveling up to 50 km / h in just 12 seconds. The structure of the hood includes magnesium poles to prevent swelling of the fabric at high speed. The presence of an electric windshield limits the turbulence in the cabin.
2020 Porsche 911 Convertible Engine Specs and Performance
Like the coupe, the 2020 Porsche 911 Convertible will initially be available only in S version, that is to say with the flat-six turbo 3 liters of displacement delivering a power of 450 horsepower at 6,500 rev / min. It is associated with an automatic 8-speed PDK dual-clutch transmission. This does not allow him to avoid the supermalus. The 911 Carrera S Convertible rejects 208 g / km CO2 (9.1 l / 100 km), the Carrera 4S 207 g / km CO2 (9 l / 100 km). Like the coupe, the Cabriolet is available at launch in 2 or 4-wheel drive versions.
As for performance, the S announces a 0 to 100 km / h in 3.9 seconds (3.7 with the optional Sport Chrono Package). The 4S is credited with 3.8 seconds (3.6 sec) on the same year. The Convertible, like the coupé, integrates the mode “rain” ensuring a perfect stability and traction on a wet pavement. In addition, the 992 convertible can be ordered for the first time with the sport chassis with PASM (Porsche Active Suspension Management). The price of the new 911 Convertible ranges from $157,597 for the Carrera S version to $166731,12 for the Carrera 4S version.
