2020 Skoda Scala: Vision RS Concept Legacy
2020 Skoda Scala: Vision RS Concept Legacy: Skoda unveils The Scala SUV Model, a compact inspired by the Vision RS concept car presented at the last Paris Motor Show. The program features a natural gas engine and a new infotainment system.
The Skoda Scala has undoubtedly inherited the lines of sports concept Vision RS. But they have been adapted to fit those of a practical compact. Based on the famous MQB platform, the Scala is 4.36m long, 1.79m wide and 1.47m high. In keeping with the tradition of the Czech brand, its boot is one of the largest in the category with a volume of 467 liters.
The cabin is also inspired by the Vision RS prototype. It hosts the brand’s new infotainment system. The latter has a screen placed higher, located in the field of vision of the driver, avoiding him to leave the road for too long. The instrument cluster can make room for a virtual cockpit inspired by that of Audi. In terms of driving aids, Lane Keeping Assist and Autonomous Emergency Braking are standard. Adaptive Cruise Control, Parking Assist, and Enhanced Blind Spot Detector are on the list of options.
2020 Skoda Scala Engine Specs
On the engine side, the entry-level is made up of a 3-cylinder, 1-liter gasoline engine with 95 horsepower, coupled with a 5-speed manual gearbox. It can also opt for the same block with a power output of 115 horsepower, but also for two 4-cylinder: a 1.6-liter diesel 115 hp and 1.5-liter petrol developing 150 horses. These engines use a standard 6-speed manual transmission but can adopt the DSG automatic transmission with a dual clutch 7-speed option.
In the course of 2019, a 90-hp 3-cylinder engine capable of operating on natural gas will join the range. Perhaps we should also expect a sports version, closer to the Vision RS concept. It could include some technical choices, such as the 1.5 liter associated with an electric group (245 hp cumulative power).
While waiting for this sportier version, the “Sport Chassis Control”, available in option, proposes settings of suspensions more sharpened in addition to a Normal mode for the quiet journeys. The 2020 Skoda Scala will hit the market in the first half of 2019.
