2020 Subaru Forester Redesign, Specs & Release Date

Friday, April 6th, 2018 - Subaru

New generation Subaru Forester, Called 2020 Subaru Forester, presented at the New York Salon, exhibits a body with accentuated curves as well as an unreleased Sports version.

The major works continue in the Subaru range. After renewing the Impreza sedan and the crossover XV, the Japanese manufacturer introduces the fifth generation of its Great compact Forester SUV in New York.

First, the style evolves smoothly, displaying accentuated curves and lines tenser than the prototype Vivir Concept had announced. The evolution is more marked inside. The dashboard has been fairly modernized and is made with better quality materials.

It remains that the revolution is more technical than aesthetic, nothing surprising on the part of a brand of engineers. The new 2020 Subaru Forester inherited the new modular platform of the brand which has many improvements.

The “Subaru Global Platform” allows significant progress in terms of driving a pleasure, agility, shock resistance, comfort, and soundproofing, progress tested and approved in the test of the last generations of Impreza and XV.

2020 Subaru Forester Hybrid Engine Specs

An elongated wheelbase of 3 cm to reach 2.67 m results in a 3.5 cm increase in the space allocated to the legs at the rear. The total volume of the trunk, rear seat folded, also increased by about 40 liters, and its threshold was lowered and the opening of the tailgate expanded.

In the United States, the engine offered at launch will be based on a single 4-cylinder, 2.5-litre direct injection, 182 hp. This new block will only be coupled with a CVT-type automatic gearbox with a 7-speed pseudo-manual mode and full transmission.

This transmission is equipped with an “active torque vectoring”, improving agility in bends, a technology originally developed for the sports WRX and WRX STI. The X-Mode management program also offers two types of settings. The first is dedicated to driving on a snowy or slippery road, the second is intended to circulate on a heavy snow or mud.

The new platform lowers the center of gravity but preserves the 22 cm of ground clearance that allows the forester to easily venture into the hollow paths. The basic versions are delivered with 17-inch wheels, but the Limited, touring and Sports finishes go into 18 inches.

This Sports finish, of which it is not known whether it will arrive one day in Europe, is also distinguished by the black processing of the grille, the fitting of a spoiler at the top of the tailgate and an orange touch on the shields and the bottoms of the crates. All versions of the 2020 Subaru Forester benefit from the complete lack of driving aids “EyeSight Driver Assist Technology“, already seen on the Impreza and XV.

As for knowing the specifications and the price of the forester that will arrive in Europe next year, in the second half, no information has filtered at the moment. The diesel will certainly be abandoned, as it has been for the Impreza and the XV. We should, therefore, find the 2 liters direct injection petrol of 156 hp inaugurated by the XV.

2020 Subaru Forester Release Date

Unfortunately, this motorization is likely to generate a high emission level of C0², penalizing our market. The anti-Malus solution could come from a hybrid version, using Toyota technology, which Subaru is currently developing and which could be discovered at the exhibition to be held in Beijing from 25 April to 4 May.
