Completely Redesigned, the Citroen C4 Cactus 2019 loses its irrelevance, endorsing the clothes of a compact sage turned to comfort.
The cactus? It’s a thorn in Citroen foot. Unveiled under the label of an essential car at a salon of 2007, this model, which had to upset the car codes, lost its substance at the whim of its development. After seven years of procrastination, the world discovers a sedan that, by dint of blurring the cards, does not fit in any box. No longer than a Peugeot 2008, with enhanced ground clearance and famous Airbumps protections, the unclassifiable C4 cactus becomes misunderstood. Mid-career balance sheet: only 270 000 copies were sold. Citroën has seen others. In the midst of the remelting of its range, the manufacturer of the rafters takes advantage of the restyling of the cactus to reshape it in depth.
The cactus is thus assigned three missions: to revive its career, to compensate the disappearance of compact sedan C4, reached by the age limit, and inaugurate in Europe the programme “Citroën Advanced Comfort” which resulted in the deposit of twenty patents and which has for Objective to give priority to comfort.
Parked next to its predecessor, the new Citroen C4 Cactus 2019 appears transformed. The template remains the same but 90% of the bodywork parts are different. Of course, the Citroen C4 Cactus 2019 reviewed and corrected now has a steering wheel adjustable in two planes (depth and height) on a small amplitude and treats the quality of the assemblies and the atmospheres, but it retains some congenital defects: plastics of the Other age, rear windows with compass opening, lack of passenger side courtesy mirror and curtain cloaking with panoramic glass roof (+ €600). The latter reduces the guard to the roof at the rear and hinders the more than 80 m. The poor visibility towards the rear makes the backup camera obligatory (+ €250).
The passage of the cactus in the upper category is verified with the appearance of numerous driving aids combined in a safety pack (standard on the last level): emergency automatic braking, reading of the road signs, alert of Line crossing and drowsiness. It is regrettable that the distance management system is too sensitive, which is reflected in the central screen cut-off and the message “near vehicle” is being entered.
What could change our appreciation for the cactus is, besides its more classic look, the care brought to the comfort of taxiing. Thanks to hydraulic shock absorbers (in compression and relaxation), a European first, the Citroen C4 Cactus 2019is not far from recreating the flying carpet effect that characterized the famous hydropneumatic suspension developed by the brand with the DS. If it does not deliver all its efficiency to the passing of the retarders, this device proves to be really convincing on the road. It is also appropriate to qualify the subject according to the motorization. With the vigorous 1.2-liter turbo petrol of 130 hp whose performance is really exciting, the synchros of the manual box hang, the crate is a frame to acceleration, undulates on the pavement and tends to wallow in curve input to rhythm Removed. Nor is it free of torque effects in the steering wheel, wheels pointed. None of this with the 110 ch version of the 3-cylinders, coupled with the excellent 6-speed automatic transmission. The ensemble appears much more homogeneous, distilling a driving approval close to a C4. The general comfort becomes all the more remarkable as the Cactus enjoys a soundproofing of the main road thanks to the adoption of an acoustic windshield, thickened windows and a denser motor/habitable bulkhead. In all cases, the virtues of a light car are rediscovered both in terms of dynamism and consumption. With version 110 Horsepower, the onboard computer has never exceeded 6.8 l/100km.

Completely Changes, the cactus is now able to play the interim since the shutdown of the C4 and represent the interests of the firm to the rafters in the M1 segment, the first in Europe. The proposal is coherent and well thought out. One will regret however a lower grade car width, which does not allow to accommodate three large comfortably at the rear seats.
