2020 BMW iX3 Electric SUV Review

2020 BMW iX3 Electric SUV Review

The 2020 BMW iX3 Concept foreshadows the first 100% electric SUV of the German Car Maker marketed in two years.

It is no coincidence that BMW chose the Beijing trade show to reveal the 2020 BMW iX3 concept that announces its first 100% electric SUV on the market in 2020. To deal with pollution problems, China is considering introducing quotas for the sale of electric vehicles. This regulation would allow Chinese manufacturers, on the page on these technologies, to close their lag on their western counterparts in particular.

If BMW was among the pioneers to market a city electric with the i3, the manufacturer Munich takes its time to invest the family market 100% electric. We know that Jaguar has taken everyone’s speed and will be the first, within a few weeks, to challenge Tesla’s monopoly on this segment becoming the zero-emission family with the I-Pace crossover.

Audi will follow at the end of the year with a crossover Q8 e-Tron that was discovered camouflaged at the last salon of Geneva. For families to ride in an electric BMW, it will be necessary to wait for 2020 and the arrival of the IX3, the first zero emission SUV in its history. If the German manufacturer, on top of these technologies, will be one of the last in the premium segment, it is that it is developing a new generation, the fifth, of electric traction chain.

The 2020 BMW iX3 SUV will be the first to take advantage of many elements of the INEXT platform, which will be inaugurated in 2021. It is first distinguished by a greater compactness of the electrical components. This is how the engine, transmission and power electronics are grouped together within the same module. The latter will be standardized and shared all the models in the BMW I range that the manufacturer will progressively market from 2020. The battery technology benefits from the experience acquired for several years with the hybrid rechargeable models and the i3.

2020 BMW iX3 Engine Specs

BMW announces a power of 200 KW (270 hp) for its compact SUV, which corresponds to the current power of Formula E in qualifying. For the record, Jaguar claims a cumulative power of 400 hp with two motors, one per axle. The German manufacturer announces an autonomy of 400 km according to the standard WLTP and a cooldown of 30 minutes with a fast terminal of 150 KW.

Audi provides the same performance for its Q8 but without divulging the power of its electrical machine. The iX3 will be easily recognizable because if it takes over the physiognomy of the last X3, it is distinguished by its redesigned front shield and an enlarged and capped double bean grille.
